CarryShield concealed carry app, State laws screen: where your carry permit is honored, with each state marked Permit honored, Permitless carry, Not authorized or Not yet verified.

The problem

Carry law isn't one law. It's fifty-one.

A permit that's good at home can be worthless one county road later. The details that decide it are scattered across statutes, agency pages and court orders.

Reciprocity has fine print

A state may honor your permit only if you don't live there, only at 21, or only the non-resident version.

Laws change quietly

Legislatures, courts and agencies move every year. An old chart is worse than no chart.

Forums aren't sources

Every answer in CarryShield links to the statute or official page it came from, so you can check it yourself.

Signal drops at the line

The whole dataset lives on your phone. No connection needed on a back road.

How it answers

The answer first. The receipt underneath.

CarryShield state gun law page: whether your concealed carry permit is honored, a traffic-stop card with duty to inform and vehicle carry rules, and cited law facts.

Your status in every state

CarryShield checks your permits, your age and where you live against each state's rules and labels it plainly:

  • Permit honored
  • Permitless carry
  • Not authorized
  • Not yet verified

Every state page opens with what you need with an officer at your window: whether you must tell them you're carrying, and whether a loaded handgun is allowed in your vehicle.

CarryShield concealed carry reciprocity map of the United States, each state shaded by your carry status with colorblind-safe hatching and dot patterns.

A map you can read in any light

Each status has its own color, pattern and icon, so the map works for colorblind drivers, on a dim screen and in direct sun. Tap a state to open it.

CarryShield scenario checker: can I carry a gun in my vehicle, a state park or a restaurant that serves alcohol, answered from the state's law with its source.

"Can I carry here?"

Pick a state and a place (your vehicle, a restaurant that serves alcohol, a state park, a place of worship, a college campus) and get the rule, whether no-gun signs carry the force of law, and your carry status.

There is no AI in CarryShield. Every answer comes from the same sourced facts you can read on the state page.

CarryShield CCW permit wallet: a saved concealed carry permit card with its issuing state, expiry date and renewal reminder.

Your permits, with a reminder before they lapse

Save your permits and get reminders 90, 30 and 7 days before each one expires. Permit numbers and notes are encrypted on your phone and never backed up to the cloud.

Trip Mode

A heads-up at the state line.

Turn on Trip Mode before a drive and CarryShield tells you when you cross into a new state, with your status there and its duty-to-inform rule.

  • Plan a trip state by state and review each one before you leave.
  • Location is checked on your phone and never uploaded. Trip Mode runs only while you have it on, with a visible notification.
  • Follow states and topics to get an alert when their law changes.
Example A Texas License to Carry holder, 21 or older, driving from El Paso into New Mexico. Generated from the same data the app ships.

Sourced, dated, checkable

Every answer has a receipt.

Each fact names the official source it came from and the day it was checked. Facts older than six months are flagged "May be outdated". When we can't confirm something from an official source, CarryShield says "Not yet verified" instead of guessing.

How facts are sourced

Texas, from the app's data

Duty to inform police

Must disclose when asked

A license holder carrying a handgun must display both a driver's license or ID and the handgun license when a magistrate or peace officer demands identification (Gov't Code 411.205). This applies to license holders; the statute imposes no such duty on unlicensed carriers.

Questions

Straight answers.

What is concealed carry reciprocity?

Reciprocity is whether one state honors a concealed carry permit issued by another. Each state sets its own list and conditions: some honor every state's permit, some honor a list, some honor none, and many add conditions such as a minimum age, non-residents only, or only the issuing state's resident permit. CarryShield shows these rules for every state, with the official source. Look up a state.

What is permitless (constitutional) carry?

Permitless carry, often called constitutional carry, lets eligible adults carry a handgun without a permit. Most permitless-carry states set a minimum age, and a permit is still useful for carrying in other states that honor it. See which states have permitless carry.

Is CarryShield legal advice?

No. CarryShield is a reference that tells you what the official sources say and links to them. It is not a lawyer and not affiliated with any government agency. For advice about your situation, ask a licensed attorney in that state.

How current is the information?

Every fact shows the date it was last checked against its source. Facts older than six months are flagged "May be outdated" until they're re-verified, and law changes are published in the updates feed.

What does "Not yet verified" mean?

We couldn't confirm that fact from an official source, so CarryShield doesn't guess. It never treats an unverified fact as allowed or prohibited.

Where does the data come from?

State statutes, attorney general and state police pages, licensing agencies, state parks agencies and federal .gov sources. Advocacy groups, gun shops, forums and blogs are never used. More on sourcing.

Does it cover federal rules for traveling with a gun?

Yes: safe passage under FOPA (18 U.S.C. 926A), school zones, post offices, federal facilities, national parks, Army Corps lands, military installations, air travel, Amtrak and NFA items. See the federal rules.

Does CarryShield work offline?

Yes. The full dataset for every state is stored on your phone, so it works with no signal. Nothing requires an account or a connection.

How much does CarryShield cost?

CarryShield is free to download. All state laws, the map, the scenario checker, federal rules and one saved permit are free. Pro is an optional monthly or yearly subscription; the current price is shown in Google Play. It adds unlimited permits, Trip Mode state-line alerts, the trip planner and alerts for law changes.

Does CarryShield track me?

No. There's no account and no analytics. Location is used only while Trip Mode is on, on your phone, and is never uploaded. Privacy policy.

Is there an iPhone version?

Not yet. CarryShield is Android only for now. The state pages on this site work on any phone.
